Title: New PC
Post by: asablic on November 21, 2015, 01:53:31 PM
Hello.

After getting a student job in IT department, I earned enough money to buy a new pc to replace a very old one ;).
I already ordered new components and they should arrive by the end of the week (maybe in 2 weeks since PSU and motherboard are no longer available in the warehouse).
Here is a list of components:

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97A/ (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97A/)

PSU: Seasonic G-550 (80 PLUS Gold)
http://seasonic.com/product/g-550/ (http://seasonic.com/product/g-550/)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2x4GB kit, might upgrade to 16GB if needed)

CPU: i7-4790

CPU cooler: Hyper 212 EVO

GPU: GTX 970 Strix

I will also be using my old computer case which still looks decent, and no it's not like using a new engine on volkswagen beetle  :P

Pictures coming soon...

EDIT: Parts have been bought from a german webshop: http://www.computeruniverse.net/
Since Germany has lowest hardware prices in Europe, you can save a lot of money by ordering from german shops (otherwise, I would probably pay more than €1400).

Pretty nice man.

Though you are aware that the 970 has only 3.5GB's of usable ram?

It's still a good card anyway.

Also I would recommend getting 16GB's of system ram soon, 8GB's is too low nowadays IMO.

Other than that a nice system, what the total cost for it?

Don't have a problem with that, I chose that card because it has great reviews and there is no fan noise (my old graphics card was very noisy when playing games).
So far, even with 3.5GB of usable ram, it can run any game atm on highest settings.

I will also see if there is a need to upgrade RAM by running demanding games and checking task manager, RAM modules are cheap and it won't be a problem buying additional modules  ;).

The total cost is €1000 ($1064).

Bad news: I have received a faulty psu and looks like I'll have to return it back  :(.
At least, I'm getting my money back and I hope they will send me a working product  ::]

I think there are a lot of psu’s with bad components. I got an expensive one of 600watt which was going off when I was running at 4k, even when the PC was consuming just only 290watt.

Yeah, I am really surprised because everyone says that Seasonic is one of the most reliable brands.
I left the computer at the local pc store so the tech guys can test everything.

So far, they have only informed me about faulty PSU while RAM modules and graphics card work fine.
They will move the computer to another location where they have specialized tools for testing motherboard and cpu.

It's sad you can't use your PC right now. Here we get new parts if this happens within 30 days.
